You’ll recognise the pattern...
...committing, doing well too! Then somehow a year later finding yourself in the exact same position as when you started (or worse).
So frustrating!
Sustainability may be new to you... but the great news is I’m here to help.
I’d like to think I’m one of the good guys. Someone who wants you to have results that last instead of building a business with the pure intention & knowledge that you will fail and come back a year later.
Quality of results isn’t based on speed. It’s based on sustainability.
From this day forward, STOP reflecting on previous short-term results as a success. “I lost 20lbs last time I did this 6 week challenge and I could do with that again now” - well what about the 12 weeks in between where you regained weight, were unmotivated, didn’t exercise or eat well and picked up your old, bad habits.
Sustainable health is different to the usual approaches we all know. Getting sustainable results requires different actions.
A different way of thinking.
At the moment, you probably only know how to get results. You don’t know how to keep them. OR haven’t found a way to keep them (yet).
So if you’re ready...
And if you want sustainable results. You HAVE to rip up what you think is right and wrong about fitness.
It’s time to start afresh.
It’s time to create your very own sustainable fitness journey.
And that starts with knowing what keeps you YOYO’ing!

#1 The ‘all or nothing’ approach
This is when you do something for 4-12 weeks, maybe a couple times a year, going ALL IN.
“this time WILL be different.”
It’s going from sitting on the sofa to 5 sessions a week.
It’s going from not much healthy food to 100% no chocolate.
100% no wine.
100% no sugar.
Grabbing your emergency chocy digestives out the office draw and lobbing them out the window.
Until it gets to the unbearable breaking point of “nothing”... which lasts way longer than 4-8 weeks as you may well know.
#2 “I’ll start when…”
This one is a trap for two reasons, I know for a fact you’ve been there.
“I’ll start when the kids are at uni.” “I’ll start when I go part-time”, “I’ll start when I’m more motivated and energised”.
First reason it’s a trap... you’re prepping yourself to only start when things are perfect. Hello!? When is this wonder we call life ever perfect? Unless I’m missing a trick. This means as soon as the first hurdle comes up you’ll quit.
Starting with imperfections is 100% part of sustainability.
The second reason... Let’s say you’re not doing anything until you feel better or in a better position to do more. Sounds sensible. But how about this truthful perspective... you’re not feeling good NOW because you’re not doing enough to feel good!
Delaying your happiness and health will only ever have one winner, and it’s not us.
Let’s look at it this way. If you’re too tired and stressed to look after your health, guess what increases energy and reduces stress? Looking after your health!
We can create energy, motivation, excitement all in a second. We CAN change how we feel.

#3 Relying on X instead of YOU
“I’m going to step things up... I’ve ordered my swiss ball from Amazon”
That’s a lot of responsibility on that Swiss Ball! Obviously it’s an example but replace it with shakes, a detox, a gym membership, new trainers or a new belly blasting programme.
Take them away or you stop doing it, what’ve you got? Unfortunately, not much.
Relying on something external instead of building a healthy lifestyle will always ensure you stay stuck, repeating losing the same 10lbs every year.
My clients aren’t on the same training programme, aren’t following the same diet or overcoming the same hurdles. They all are in control of THEIR journey, in an easy, balanced, unrestricted way. And because it’s specific, not brutal and considers all areas of life - it’s enjoyable and sustainable for them.
#4 Looking TOO SHORT TERM
Wondering how much to lose in 4 weeks or downloading the next 21 day kettlebell programme is fine IF the larger picture has been taken into account.
If it hasn’t... You’re almost guaranteed to stay in the short-term cycle that ensures long-term failure.
It’s possibly something you’ve never considered before... but do you want to be struggling with energy, mindset and health for 6-8 months every year for the next 30-50 years?
Or do you want to be active and full health until your late 80’s, 90's. Being able to play with the kids and grandkids. Feeling fulfilled and content in body and mind instead of spending half to 2/3s of it unsatisfied.
This next question is powerful (and remember I want you to win)... Look at your last 5-10 years, if you don’t have sustainable healthy habits in place, until you break that pattern, that’s the pattern you’ll stay in!
With this next question... if the answer is ‘no’ don’t do it.
On any fitness journey, ask yourself ‘could I maintain this for the next 10 years?’. If the answer is ‘no’, you still haven’t found sustainability.

#5 DODGY ADVICE
Whether it’s professional advice or just friends, family and co-workers,
Dodgy advice is everywhere.
With professionals:
Most weight loss programmes are designed with:
The INTENTION of people regaining their weight so they reuse the service - this is terribly sad but true
Just ran by people with good intentions, but are simply uneducated and think the only way to lose weight is by fadding.
With friends and family, sometimes they won't understand or support if you want to make improvements health-wise. That’s only because they care. They like you the way you are. Maybe they’re a bit worried they’re not changing or you’re going to change too much so they try to keep you as you are. And quite often, they all hit you with the unsolicited
fitness advice.
“You know Jim lost 20lbs by only drinking water for 8 days and he feels great!
You should do that”
If your sink broke you wouldn’t take advice off your sister. So when it comes to the most important thing in your life, YOUR HEALTH, give the dodgy advice a wide berth.
If you’re not happy, you need a strong source of fitness support. Fitness friends.
People who will relate and inspire you to overcome the struggles of getting fit, not the struggles of getting unfitter. Fitness friends to pick you up when you’re down. People who know more and you can pick their brains for answers! Getting guidance, support and accountability!
All mega things for long-term success. Seriously. HUGE! So don’t go it alone.
So there you have it… 5 things to stop immediately so you get long-term fat loss!
Great read! love it. x
